The Mandalorian will be released on Wednesday December 18th.

This to keep it from coinciding with the premier of Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker.

CNBC reports the fact:

“On Friday, the Skywalker saga comes to an end with the release of “The Rise of Skywalker.”

Fans will also have another episode of Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” to watch. However, unlike previous weeks, episode seven will arrive Wednesday instead of Friday.

It’s likely an effort by Disney to put some space between the two hotly anticipated pieces of content. Disney did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.”

This makes sense from a business perspective.

You don’t want two different pieces of content overlapping like that.

Though, I doubt The Rise of Skywalker would be affected by people staying home to watch The Mandalorian it could affect the number for the Disney+ series.

Even though it a digital show and therefore isn’t beholden to old viewing numbers model traditional television covets Disney still wants everyone to be able to watch it at the same time.

This is because the movie would mostly disrupt the Internet cycle for the show.

When you release a piece of content the best way of marketing it is still word of mouth, or world of Internet.

Every time the show debuts an new episode, we get a couple days to a week discussing the show.

So when a new episode drops we get days of this:

There are rounds of videos and articles discussing the new show and arguing over details. People speculate on what really happened or what might happened next.

So Disney has to preserve the cycle to keep it going.

Plus if they do it just right they can land a boost from both of these properties working together as the fervor builds to the new movie.
